Marie. The Artist.
Inspiration Home Materials and Methods Studies Exhibitions
Inspiration to paint the light, colour and atmosphere of Australia, to be able to paint it, capture the joy and rewards of this environment, is what I like to try and capture within my artwork. Home Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, is one of the most isolated in the world. The state of WA takes up the whole western side of the Australian continent and its coastline covers 12,000 kms. My home and studio are situated in the northern suburb of Duncraig. Along the coast nearby is a winding drive which has been named the "Sunset Coast Tourist Drive". You can see numerous, white sandy beaches and limestone rocky cliffs. There is the Marmion Marine Park and offshore, at 18kms away, sits Rottnest Island a favourite holiday spot. |
Please take yourself on this journey with me and enjoy my creations....
Materials and Methods
Artist quality materials: acid free watercolour papers; paints such as Winsor & Newton, Atelier, Matisse. Framing is the work of professional framers.
Artwork will often commence on site with sketches, notes and photographic records. Being on site I can take away mindfully the feeling and atmosphere of the subject. Painting may start there and be continued in my studio at home.
Studies
I was fortunate enough to see quite a lot of the famous Art Galleries of the world as a young adult. Since then, I check them out whenever possible. Studied art at high school and then more thoroughly in the 1990's studied art history, drawing and painting at the West Coast Art College of TAFE; I have continued to learn and work attending classes and workshops as well as doing the occasional teaching.
